Quantum startups and Star Trek teleportation

Quantum Teleportation is the prequel to Star Trek

I am an investor in several startup companies that are based in India and we do Encryption, Teleportation and Identify Friend or Foe systems. Essentially they all boil down to how to win the wars in the future, on Earth and in space.

Quantum Teleportation

Let’s say there are two people, Alice and Bob

  1. Alice wants Bob to have a PHOTON that’s in the same “state” as her PHOTON. We’ll call this PHOTONP
  2. For the sake of this analogy, we’ll pretend that the “state” is a color, and PHOTON P is YELLOW.
  3. A third person named Charlie sends out two entangled PHOTONS, both start out as blue.
  4. PHOTON A goes to Alice and PHOTON B to Bob, which behave as if they are part of the same whole.
  5. Bob has a specific crystal, which serves as a memory bank for storing his entangled PHOTON and serving as the recipient of the quantum state.
  6. Alice has two photons, her original P, which is YELLOW, and the one she received from Charlie, A
  7. The two PHOTONS (P and A) collide.
  8. Alice uses ‘quantum sensing ‘ which measures electromagnetic activity as the PHOTONS annihilate one another.
  9. Although P and A are destroyed in the crash, Ps YELLOW color is preserved
  10. Because PHOTON A and PHOTON B are entangled, the YELLOW color is “teleported” to B.
  11. But in order to get PHOTON B to become YELLOW, as PHOTON P originally was, Alice needs to send Bob two bits of information to B the “classical” way — for example, by sending pulses of light over an optical fiber.
  12. When Alice measures the state of her PHOTON, Bob’s PHOTON changes state as well, as if flipping a switch
  13. But… Bob cannot know how the switch flipped unless Alice sends him the bits of information classically. Bob does not know that his PHOTON has changed to YELLOW without that additional information.

The state of a particle (PHOTON P) is destroyed at one location but imprinted on another remote system (PHOTON B) without the two particles ever interacting.

Simple use case scenario:

  • If you have astronauts on Mars you don’t want to have hackers break the encrypted channel and give them false information.
  • Secure banking and financial services.

My startups in India

Wars express themselves in many ways. My field of interest is wars that kill.

Coming wars will include drone swarms, in which hundreds of drones simultaneously fill the sky – although only some may have payloads.

The technology my companies are creating will:

  1. Identify if those drones are Friend or Foe
  2. Another company will use quantum teleportation so that massive swarms of drones can communicate with each other without enemy signal infiltration
  3. Another company does encryption which also involves how signals are transmitted from satellites to tanks and commanders on the ground

When I was a kid I was hooked to the original Star Trek and fascinated by the teleporter. But being by nature ‘a worrier’ I was stressed contemplating ‘what if the teleporter breaks down and stops transmission half way through’, or ‘what if it goes berserk’.

I hope my startups will let the younger me sleep at night.

Because what my company’s do is hard to explain in an elevator going from the ground to the 40th floor, this post borrows a bit from a few other articles and I have linked those sources. They explain more elegantly and economically than I can.
