I first collided with the book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time at a public reading at the Housing Works bookshop downtown (a very cool place to go, its Strand with coffee).
It was unknown at that time and the author Mark Haddon was doing the rounds. it was a random event. I liked the bookstore and the fact that what they have on the shelves is what Barnes and Noble doesn’t. The reading of about 10 pages was amazing. it was captivating. I bought the book.
